Our Parent Company

Colonial Beginnings

In 1956, Edward L. Lowder, having already founded an insurance company that contributed to Alabama’s evolution from strong agricultural to a more diversified economy, formed his own company in order to pursue an interest in residential real estate.

That was the seed for the broad-based holding company that is today called The Colonial Company. It is operated by two of Mr. Lowder’s sons, James K. and Thomas H. Lowder.

The Colonial Company currently holds an investment in numerous projects. The projects are diversified among insurance, light commercial and multifamily residential construction, residential single family construction, residential real estate sales, commercial real estate sales, operating in a variety of markets throughout the Sunbelt states.

The Colonial Company is committed to a never-ending program of providing superior service, which will continue to set us apart in all endeavors.
